Cameroon is one of the biggest countries in Central Africa, in terms of size (475 000 Km2) and in population (19.8 million). Its GDP per capita in PPP terms is USD 2300, which makes it an average Sub-Saharan Africa country. The Human Development Index is 0.48 (SSA average 0.463).
The economy is still very much rural, with 70% of the population in agriculture. Yet, agriculture only accounts for 19.7% of GDP, while industry and services account for respectively 31.9% and 48.4% of GDP. The Government of Cameroon had developed the “Growth and Employment Strategy Paper” (GESP) for 2010-2020, aiming at achieving the MDGs.
